Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is currently the 49th vice-president of the United States. She is the first woman to be elected vice president and she is also the most powerful female officer in the history of America. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she served as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. After establishing her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was elected the district attorney of San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and was reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for health care, federal de-scheduling and cannabis legalization as a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has garnered her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
